The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County has exhibits that will please both young and old alike. From dinosaur bones to precious gems and everything in between, everyone will find something exciting and interesting to entertain them.

The museum offers plenty of activities and programs to join, and even live animal encounters. Dozens of different collections are showcased for your viewing pleasure. The new butterfly pavilion is now open, and admission to the museum is free if you are active military, or for children 2 and under.

ATTRACTIONS

Come learn about animals, insects, dinosaurs and even shells at the LA County museum. Check out the dinosaur hall and view some amazing fossils of these giants. Fossils over 150 million years old are included in some of these displays. Remains were found in places like Utah, Montana and Wyoming, just to name a few.

Adults and children alike enjoy the insect zoo, featuring beautiful and sometimes creepy creatures from around the world. The velvet ant has a fuzzy, soft appearance, while the Brazilian salmon tarantula just looks outright icky. You can even touch some of the bugs! The spider hall features some amazing and beautiful web spinners for you to learn about, like the Golden silk spider, whose silk is one of the strongest fibers in the world! If bugs aren’t your thing, head over to the Gem and Mineral Hall. Here you can view some beautiful garnets, shiny silver and gold, and California’s state gemstone, benitoite. There’s even a hands-on section where you can touch some precious gems, such as meteorites, gems and a giant chunk of jadeite. /p>

The mammal hall will teach you about everything from a beaver to a moose. A large list of mammals is featured here, explaining all about the mammal’s history and life. The new butterfly pavilion is a great opportunity to see these beautiful creatures up close in their own habitat as they interact with the flowers and plants around them.

Lake San Marcos Executive course is a very mature golf course. It was built in 1980 by David Rainville and features a variety of man-made and natural obstacles. The course boasts a links style experience and a stunning array of backdrops.

This 18 hole course has a par of 72. It features a total yardage of 6398 yards. The rating is a 71.7 and the slope is a 129. There are four different tee lengths to support golfers of all abilities.

THE COURSE

The Hillcrest Country Club was first opened in 1920 and was the first Jewish members only country club in Southern California. This is an 18-hole course of well-kept Kikuyu grass extending up to 6,489 yards for a par of 71. This has a driving range of 20 tees, with tree-lined fairways that are in traditionally styled, with an average course rating of 76.6 and slope rating of 141. The golf course includes a workout facility, cafe and restaurant with a patio, pool and a driving range.

The Jewish only membership policy is no longer enforced but is still restricted to members. There is very little information on the clubs site and requires membership login information. However, their up to date scorecard information can be seen at worldgolf.com. The club will go through periods of accepting guests but these are by invite- only and settled between members and the club and enforce a strict dress code policy. The new renovations to the club have made some changes to improving the course and also include a pool. p>

GREEN FEES

Because of the members only policy, the initiation fees are at a steep 185,000 dollars. Weekend fees are at $75 with cart while weekdays are $55. Donations made to the club improve ones chances of membership, home visits and tax return information are also requirements and this is rather competitive as well. Younger members are being accepted and especially if their parents are already members, but these require yearly fees that increase with age. The facilities also include tennis and basketball courts.

Golf club brands include Affinity, Arizona Golf, Cleveland, Mizuno, Callaway, Bobby Jones, Nike, Wilson and Tour Age and apparel by big names such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Polo, Cobra and Champ to name a few.

TENNIS COURTS, POOL AND GRILL

For those members that would prefer something other than golf there are nine outdoor Har-Tru clay tennis courts available on the property and a newly added 25-meter Olympic pool with a changing room and cafe. Rates apply to these courts as well but there is little to no information offered for this private club.

There are newly renovated areas within the indoor facilities that include the kitchen, grille restaurant and the patio which offers a great menu selection for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner by some of the best chefs. The cafe area has a more flexible dress code policy but the restaurant does require jackets and provides one if the member does not bring one. Also included is a well-stocked bar.

Those who have been privileged guests of the club refer to the service and the course as one of the best country clubs in Southern California. Privacy and protection for the members is enforced and there is always a possibility of meeting high caliber moguls from different industries like entertainment, real estate and business.

THE COURSE

Rancho Park golf course was designed by famed golf architects William Johnson and William P. Bell in the 1940s. It opened in 1949 with the U.S.G.A. Public Links Championship and has since been host to 18 Los Angeles Opens and several LPGA and Senior Tour events between 1978 and 1994. This course, with its small greens and undulating fairways provides a special challenge. It will test the skills of all golfers.

Rancho Park is an 18 hole course that is 6,630 yards long from the championship tees, It has a par of 71, a rating of 71.6 and a slope of 126. The course begins with a 381 yard par 4. It has 10 other par 4 holes. There are also four par 3 holes and 3 par 5 holes. Their signature hole is the 522 yard par 5 hole 4.
