First Time Coming to West Covina, California – Did You Know?
YESTERDAY
To prevent the city of Covina from building a sewage farm there, West Covina was incorporated as an independent city in 1923 and orange and walnut groves continued to grow in the subsequent decades. As one of the many cities that experienced great expansion during the post-World War II building boom, West Covina’s population exploded between 1950 and 1960.
The second half of the 20th century brought new developments and projects spearheaded by big business. The first example of a Joint Powers Authority in the County was enacted by the construction of the City Hall and Police facility in 1969. They also finished a three-level parking structure at the Civic Center complex, where the Los Angeles County Regional Library, City offices and the Citrus Municipal Court building are located. The first Redevelopment Agency project was to build a shopping center called the West Covina Fashion Plaza which holds 150 shops and three major department stores in an enclosed, air-conditioned mall.
TODAY
West Covina had a population of 106,098 according to the 2010 census, with population density at 6,594.3 people per square mile. The city is 47% Democrat 47% and 28% Republican.
Currently, West Covina has several projects planned. The first is the West Covina Sportsplex Project that includes commercial development, a Big League Dreams Sports Park, an 18-hole championship Public Golf Course and a commercial office development, the first two parts being already completed. Ongoing renovation to and expansion to Westfield West Covina mall includes additions of new stores and is expected to be finished in 2011 in the spring. A new hotel is also undergoing construction, the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott.

Located 18 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, West Covina is a city of Los Angeles County, California, with a population of about 106,098 at the time of the 2010 census. It is predominantly middle class suburb in the eastern San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, with some upper middle class residents in the southern region of the city, called the “South Hills”.

There is also a skatepark in Orangewood Park.
